Combined Defense Service
Purpose
- The Combined Defence Services (CDS) Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit officers into the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Indian Naval Academy (INA), Air Force Academy (AFA), and the Officers Training Academy (OTA). The exam is held twice a year, typically in February and November.

- Application fee: ₹200 (Exempted for female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
Elgibility Criteria

Nationality:
- Must be an Indian citizen, or a subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee who came to India before 1962.

- IMA: 19 to 24 years.
- INA: 19 to 22 years.
- AFA: 19 to 23 years.
- OTA: 19 to 25 years.
- Physical Standards: Candidates must meet the medical and physical fitness criteria as specified by the respective academies.

Salary and Benefits
- Starting Salary: Officers joining through CDS are entitled to a starting salary in the range of ₹56,100 to ₹1,77,500 depending on the rank.
