Engineering Service Examination

Purpose

  • The UPSC Engineering Services Examination (ESE), also known as the Indian Engineering Services (IES), is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) to recruit engineers for technical positions in various government departments. These positions are prestigious and involve managing critical engineering and technological projects.

Application Process

  • Apply online through the UPSC website (upsc.gov.in).
  • Application fee: ₹200 (Exempted for female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates).

Elgibility Criteria

  • Educational Qualification:

    • A degree in Engineering (B.E./B.Tech) from a recognized university or equivalent qualification.
    • Candidates in their final year of engineering can also apply.
  • Age Limit:

    • Minimum: 21 years
    • Maximum: 30 years (Relaxations: SC/ST – 5 years, OBC – 3 years)
  • Nationality:

    • Indian citizens or candidates from Nepal, Bhutan, or other specified categories.

Exam Structure

  • Selected candidates are placed in Level 10 (₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500) of the 7th Pay Commission, along with allowances like:
