Forest Service Examination
Purpose
- The Indian Forest Service (IFS) Examination is one of the prestigious exams conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It is designed to recruit officers for India’s Forest Service, which is responsible for the management and protection of the country’s natural resources, wildlife, and forests.
Application Process
- Apply online through the UPSC website (upsc.gov.in).
- Application fee: ₹200 (Exempted for female/SC/ST/PwBD candidates).
Elgibility Criteria
- Nationality: The candidate must be:
- A citizen of India.
- A subject of Nepal, Bhutan, or a Tibetan refugee (meeting specific conditions).
- Educational Qualification : A bachelor’s degree with at least one of the following subjects (Botany, Chemistry, Biology, Mathamatics, Physics, Staticics and Zoology)
- Age Limit:
- Minimum: 21 years.
- Maximum: 32 years.

Exam Structure
- Preliminary Examination (Prelims): Screening test to qualify for the Mains.
- Main Examination (Mains): Written descriptive test to assess depth of knowledge and analytical ability.
- Personality Test (Interview): Final stage to evaluate suitability for a career in public service.
Selection Process
- Selection: Candidates are selected based on their performance in the Main Examination and Interview.
- Training: Selected candidates undergo rigorous training at the Indira Gandhi National Forest Academy (IGNFA), Dehradun.
