General SLET
Purpose
- The General SLET (State Level Eligibility Test) is the most common type of SLET exam. It is designed to determine the eligibility of candidates for Assistant Professor positions in universities and colleges within a particular state. The exam is usually conducted by a State University or an academic board authorized by the state government. The purpose of the General SLET is to assess candidates’ academic proficiency and their teaching aptitude, ensuring that only qualified candidates are eligible to teach at the higher education level.
Application Process
- Candidates must apply online through the official TRB website.
- The application fee is generally required to be paid during the application process. The fee varies for general and reserved categories.
- Candidates should upload scanned copies of required documents, including their educational certificates, age proof, and photograph.
Elgibility Criteria
- Candidates must hold a Master’s Degree (or equivalent) in the subject they wish to apply for and meet the required minimum marks (usually 55% or 50% for reserved categories).
- There is usually no upper age limit for candidates applying for Assistant Professor positions via SLET.
- There is usually a 5% relaxation in marks for SC/ST/OBC/PWD candidates

Selection Process
- CTET Exam: Candidates must appear for and pass the CTET exam.
- Application for Jobs: Apply for teaching positions in schools that require CTET certification.
Screening: Schools will screen candidates based on their CTET score and educational qualifications. - Written Exam (if applicable): Some schools may conduct their own written exams or tests.
Interview/Demonstration Lesson: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview or demonstration.
Syllabus
- Paper 1 focuses on general teaching, research, and reasoning skills.
- Paper 2 & Paper 3 focus on your chosen subject (e.g., Political Science, English, Commerce, etc.).
- Both Paper 2 and Paper 3 contain questions at the postgraduate level.
Salary and Benefits
- The basic salary typically starts from around ₹35,000 for entry-level Assistant Professors and can go up to ₹80,000 or more for those with experience, academic qualifications, or additional responsibilities (such as Head of Department or Research Supervisor).
- The basic salary can range from ₹57,700 for a fresh appointment (entry-level) to ₹1,82,400 for senior positions, depending on experience and qualifications.
