State Teacher Eligibility Test
Purpose
- The State Teacher Eligibility Test (STET) is a state-level exam conducted by individual state governments in India to determine the eligibility of candidates for teaching positions in state government schools. Unlike the Central Teacher Eligibility Test (CTET), which is conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) for central government schools, STET is specific to a particular state’s educational system and is usually required for recruiting teachers for schools under the respective state government.
Application Process
- Candidates must apply online through the official TRB website.
- The application fee is generally required to be paid during the application process. The fee varies for general and reserved categories.
- Candidates should upload scanned copies of required documents, including their educational certificates, age proof, and photograph.
Elgibility Criteria
- For Primary Teacher (I-V): 12th grade + D.El.Ed OR Graduation + B.Ed.
- For Upper Primary Teacher (VI-VIII): Graduation + B.Ed.
You need to pass the TET with required marks (usually 60%). - Age limit is usually between 18 and 35 years, with age relaxations for reserved categories.

Exam Structure
- Paper I – For candidates who wish to teach classes I to V (Primary Stage)
- Paper II – For candidates who wish to teach classes VI to VIII (Upper Primary Stage)
- Marking Scheme: 1 mark for each correct answer. No negative marking for incorrect answers
Selection Process
- CTET Exam: Candidates must appear for and pass the CTET exam.
- Application for Jobs: Apply for teaching positions in schools that require CTET certification.
Screening: Schools will screen candidates based on their CTET score and educational qualifications. - Written Exam (if applicable): Some schools may conduct their own written exams or tests.
Interview/Demonstration Lesson: Shortlisted candidates are called for an interview or demonstration.
